Heidi and Lee drove out to Chicago today to stay with the Lonergans prior to Lee's Friday departure, a trip differing significantly weather-wise from our drive to Urbana-Champaign a couple of weeks ago.
Our "mildest of mild" Winters has definitely given way to the "warmest of warm" Springs - today's temperature topped out in the 'eighties! On arrival we sat in the yard, drinking lemonade, basking in the warmth of the unseasonable sunshine. Alissa even grilled chicken outdoors for dinner.
Before heading off for an evening Pilgrim Community Nursery School staff meeting, she located her scrapbooks and diary from her Japan travels to share with Sean. He scanned them all briefly, finding the aerogrammes both Lee and Alissa wrote home particularly fascinating. They're sure to prove more interesting once he's visited many of the same spots.
Later Alissa, however, really enjoyed reminiscing and recalling aspects of her adventures as she paged through all three albums.
Along the way, Lee discovered that he had mislabeled the ship they traveled on as the "Marco Polo", rather than the "Pearl (not of the Orient, but) of Scandinavia". An evening phone conversation with Evan revealed that he, not Jon, had accompanied the group of teachers around Japan in 1988. Now, having made the needed blog corrections, Lee only needs to talk with Jon about the circumstances surrounding HIS Japan trip to finally straighten out all these memories of times past.

Dad,
ReplyDeleteI think both Evan and I went with high school teachers. I definitely remember my trip was filled with teachers who were mortified that I had gotten lost in the flea market!
