In the famous existential play, two guys sit around awaiting the arrival of someone who really never makes an appearance. That's somewhat the way Lee feels as this intermediate day comes to a close here in Oak Park.
The weird weather hasn't helped much: sunny and VERY warm again but laced with a passing rainstorm that seemed more like a Summer rain than a Spring shower.
For the Lonergans, the day followed the usual pattern - off to school and work in the morning; re-gathering in the late afternoon for supper and somewhere along the way completing all the little chores marking contemporary family life in the twenty-first century. That is, except for Heidi and Lee, for whom this was just another day of leisure, although transported to a distant clime.
After finishing up her morning with her two-year-old class, Alissa did return home to accompany Heidi out for some therapy shopping at nearby Oak Brook Mall. Lee went along and ended up with a shirt and a pair of earphones (while ostensibly looking for a hair brush - which he ended up finding later at a Walgreen's in the midst of that torrential afternoon downpour).
We did have a nice lunch at a California Pizza Kitchen - and the sunshine was most welcome throughout the day.
But Lee would rather be on that plane winging over the Pacific en-route to Japan ... Will tomorrow (Godot) ever come?
